Zero Waste Pattern Cutting

Maarit A.

“Zero waste fashion has at least two dimensions: It aims for less pre-consumer waste, literally for zero percent of waste, in the production phase. In addition, this method integrates design and pattern making, resulting in an evolving process that cannot be completely planned ahead. ZWPC really challenges the designer to see patterns in a new way.

I mostly like simple and elegant forms, and I am searching for a way to create a slim silhouette with this method. I believe sustainable approaches, such as zero waste, should not compromise with designer’s visions. I try to apply ZWPC to the kind of aesthetic and mood that I want to depict in my design. All that has to be in unison.”
